Will there be some type of regular(weekly) communication with parents and families?

Yes, there will be a weekly and monthly email to all families with information and updates for updates.

How do I address mail and care packages to my child?

What items are not allowed for my child in the boarding school?

The below list are items that your child should NOT have on-campus or be sent in a care package:

  2. Tobacco, dip, electronic cigarettes
  3. Powder drinks, weight gainer, protein, creatine, or supplement powder
  4. Playing cards, dice, board games
  5. Mouthwash with alcohol
  6. Food with shells (sunflower seeds)
  7. Gum
  8. Aerosol can of any kind
  9. Pocket knives
  10. Cameras
  11. Thumb drives, CDs/DVDs, computer games
  12. Lighters
  13. Cash (Mobile Money is cashless)
  14. Instant shoeshine liquid
  15. iPods with Wi-Fi capabilities or cameras
  16. No hot plates or devices that heat liquid
  17. Electric blankets
  18. Plug-in air fresheners
  19. Vitamins or medicine unless approved by infirmary
  20. Glass items, jars, drinking glasses, or glass bowls

What will the child be doing after classes end in the afternoon?

The afternoon activities schedule depends on the day of the week. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays children are participating in athletic activities.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are "Drill Days." This means that at the end of the class day, our children will be engaged in training, drill, or other activities of the Corps of Cadets under the supervision of the Commandant's Department, prior to beginning athletic activities.

What is the accommodation arrangement ex. Single rooms, share rooms?

Datus Boarding school offer shared accommodation from either 4-6 per room in lower grade levels and progress toward 4 per room in upper senior years. Some rooms are closer to shared bathrooms. Each room comes with at least a bed, dresser and desk.

Are there any activities for boarding students during weekends and what about school breaks and vacations?

Yes. Our boarding school ensure that during weekends, our boarding students are occupied either in their own pursuits (with permission) or in organized school activities. Our organized schools activities can be out to the movies, museums, shopping, sport games, concerts, and more!

Am I able to visit the school at any time?

Of course. Parents must first advise school staff of their plans so they are able to plan for the visit and ensure that parents have meetings with any staff members organized. We enjoy having parents participating in the life of the school and welcome the involvement. The school staff will see parent visits as an opportunity to discuss a child's progress and well-being. Please let the school know in advance of intention to visit. We encourage parents to visit the school before the student starts the school year.

What if my child gets sick?

There are trained staff (in many instances, registered nurses) who are in attendance or on call 24/7 for the students and boarding students of the school. Should your child require more serious attention through illness or injury such as medical attention by a doctor, surgeon or hospitalization - the nominated local guardian and the parents will be notified immediately. Parents will also be communicated with about any other illness their child may suffer, such as viral illness where they require isolation.

Is there an ESL Program at the school?

Each of our schools offer English language support whether it is English as a Second Language or English Language Learners The cost of each support program varies depending on the school. Our schools offer a summer program to prepare students for mainstream classes. Our admissions team can provide you guidance through the enrollment process.

Day Students

When and where do day students report each school day morning?

Day students will report in each morning by 0715 hours at the main security office to sign in. They will then report to their various assigned classrooms.

When do day students depart campus at the end of the school day?

Day students will typically finish up their athletic participation by about 1730 hours. They will then be expected to report to the security office to receive any final instructions or updates for the following day. Prior to departing, they must then sign out of the security office.

What if I need to drop my day student off earlier in the morning?

  • Day students who arrive early will report to the security office. They may then either wait in that office or at another location as directed. They may join their colleagues in the Dining Hall during their scheduled breakfast time.

What if I need to pick up my day student later in the evening?

Day students may either wait in the security office or at another location as directed.

What is the process to pick up my child early or arrive late due to a medical appointment?

If your day student needs to go to an appointment with his doctor, dentist, orthodontist, etc. you simply need to contact our infirmary at administration@datus.edu.gh and communicate the appointment information. We prefer that such appointments take place after the class day if possible.

What do I do if my child is sick and I need to keep him/her home?

In the event your child needs to stay home due to an illness, you need to email absent@datus.edu.gh to notify us of his absence.

A registered nurse from our infirmary will follow up with you later that day to learn more about the circumstances of your son's illness. If he needs to stay home longer than two days, you will need to provide medical documentation in order for his absence to be counted as an excused absence.

How can I learn what classes my child is taking and how he/she is performing academically?

Does the school provide learning support or can it extend to my child if they are clever?

Each of our branches have specialist staff and programs to extend the gifted student and support the student who is requiring assistance to reach their full potential. We have quality staff member who understand how to teach boys and how to teach girls 'differently' as each learns at a different pace and prefers a different style

Can I pay incidental expenses (such as uniforms, fees, etc) with a different form of payment than my tuition payments?

Yes, incidental expenses can be set up to auto-pay from a different credit card or bank account than the one used for your tuition payments. All payments are made to through the bank.
