Learning Area

Languages

English with French and Mandarin as Additional Languages

Language development is fundamental to communication and supports thinking, understanding, and expression. At Datus, learning language, learning about language, and learning through language happen together.

Mainstream classes are taught in English. Students from Sunflower learn French as an additional language, Mandarin is introduced from Year 3, and students also study Ga, Twi, or Ewe either as a mother tongue or as the host-country language.

Language learning in Early Years and Primary School takes place within units of inquiry and as a separate subject across five developmental phases from Sunflower through Year 6.
