Programme of Inquiry (POI)

Programme of Inquiry (POI)

Teaching and learning in Early Years and Primary School is built around Units of Inquiry that connect disciplines, questions, and meaningful learning experiences.

POI Overview

A concept-led structure for teaching and learning

The Programme of Inquiry sits at the center of how learning is organized in Early Years and Primary School.

Teaching and learning in Early Years and Primary School is based around the Programme of Inquiry (POI). It is made up of Units of Inquiry that give children significant, engaging, relevant, and challenging learning experiences driven by concept-based key questions.

Children take part in a range of learning activities planned in response to those questions, allowing ideas from different disciplines to be drawn together into one meaningful whole.

Units of Inquiry are designed to give children meaningful learning experiences that are relevant, engaging, and appropriately challenging.

Concept-Based Questions

Teaching is driven by key questions that help learners investigate ideas deeply rather than memorizing disconnected content.
